Tarter and plaque can build around teeth and underneath the gums surrounding your teeth. This plaque contains bacteria that can eat away the jaw bone supporting your teeth. If this is treated properly teeth may become lose due to lack of bone support. This is called Periodontal Disease.
The proper beginning treatment is with scaling and root planning. This is essential very deep cleanings under your gums. To make this comfortable for you, we anesthetize the gum tissue before beginning these deep cleanings.
Once you have gone through the intial deep cleanings we recommend follow up periodontal maintaince every 3 months to keep the gum tissue healthy and prevent plaque from building back up after the scaling and root planning.
